Richard played an active role in three research studies conducted by the institute. Richard maintained the institute's World Wide Web page, worked closely with the director of the institute, and regularly attended professional conferences. As an undergraduate, he provided technical assistance to several graduate students who were completing their thesis projects for the Master of Public Services degree at DePaul. The Governor's Office of Smart Growth - Baltimore, MD February 2002- May 2002 Maryland's Governor's Office of Smart Growth is the department charged with overseeing Maryland's progress toward sustainable growth. It promotes efficient land-use and transportation policy in the State of Maryland. Richard assisted with the collection of data from other State of Maryland Agencies to be used for reports to the Governor and assisted with the publication of a fact sheet for interested Maryland residents. The Temple University Center for Research in Human Development and Education, The Laboratory for Student Success - Philadelphia, PA July 2001- January 2002 The Laboratory for Student Success is one of ten Regional Educational Laboratories funded by the Office of Educational Research and Improvement at the US Department of Education. The goal of the LSS is to enact and sustain lasting systemic educational reform through collaborative programs of applied research and development and services to educators. Richard conducted field research and analysis of Small Schools Programs and the "Community for Learners" teaching method. The Chicago Housing Authority, Department of Management, Analysis, and Planning - Chicago, IL June 2000 - September 2000 Richard assisted with the publication of the CHA's monthly and quarterly reports. This included collecting information and data files from various CHA departments and compiling them into a uniform format. The data he analyzed was then used to determine whether the private management firms hired by the CHA to manage its property were meeting federal benchmarks set forth in the 1998 Public Housing Reform Act.
